I am Dr Sanjay Gupta. I am a Consultant heart specialist in York, UK and I believe that high quality reliable jargon-free information about health should be available at no cost to everyone in the world.
Through my UA-cam channel, I want to engage, educate and empower patients to take control of their health by addressing their lifestyles and preventing disease from happening in the first instance.
Most of all, i want people to stop being fearful and anxious about their health by getting them to focus on improving their quality of life and living fearlessly.

The Third way
Переглядів 25 тис.3 місяці тому
The only bit about the health care industry which lives up to its name is "industry" - The NHS is arrogant, sluggish and views the patient as a data set. The Private sector on the other views the patient as a cash cow. There is a desperate need for a 3rd way.
Ageing, blood pressure (and a glove)
Переглядів 35 тис.6 місяців тому
Our Blood pressure changes as we get older. Unfortunately doctors are now care more about following guidelines and less about treating the individual. There is something inherently illogical about treating a 90 year old with a BP of 150/90 in the same way as a 20 year old with a BP of 150/90. The benefits are less and the risk of harm is greater. Here i explain how our BP changes as we get older.
Isolated Diastolic Hypertension

A patient recently contacted me for some advice. Over the past few weeks, whenever he had his blood pressure measured by his doctor, his top number (the systolic pressure) was normal at 120 mmHg but his lower number (the diastolic pressure) was elevated at 95mmHg. His doctor was now pressurising him to take medications to lower his diastolic pressure. My patient was unkeen to take medications b...

ECTOPIC HEART BEATS - COULD THEY BE DAMAGING MY HEART?
Переглядів 40 тис.9 місяців тому
Can ectopic heart beats, PVCs and PACS damage the heart? Today I wanted to do a video to hopefully reassure patients why ectopic beats do not cause damage to the heart. The heart is a pump and its role is to get oxygen rich blood to our organs. To function most effectively as a pump the heart has to beat at a certain optimal rate and in a regular rhythm. If the heart goes too slow or too fast i...

Resynchronizing the heart in heart failure
Unfortunately I am dealing with a lot of anxiety, stress, and it's causing me to have chest pain.
this was the best explanation easy, understandable thank you 🙏.
IHIGH DOCTOR, I'M 82, AND HAVE HAD HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE FOR APROXIMATELY 18 YRS.( ALTHOUGH, NOT DANGEROUS LEVELS) RECENTLY AT MY DOCTORS REQUEST, I TESTED MY BLOOD PRESSURE, AT HOME, AT REGULAR TIMES , DURING ONE DAY, TOTALLING 16 TIMES. I PRINTED IT AND GAVE GAVE HIM THE RESULTS. FOR THE FIRST TIME, HE SAID I HAD A INTERMITTANT DIASTOLIC PROBLEM. 4 EXAMPLES BETWEEN 3,40 PM AND 7.40 PM. ALL ABOUT OR JUST BELOW 100. CONSEQUENTLY, I WAS PRESCRIBED --''DAPAGLIFLOZIN 10 MG. I EXPECT YOU CAN PRONOUNCE THAT BETTER THAN I. SO ITLOOKS LIKE I'M AN EXAMPLE LIKE THE ONE YOU GAVE ABOVE. HIGH PRESSURE, NOW BOUTS OF LOW PRESSURE.
I was at work a few days ago and almost past out. It's the first time in my life this ever happened so I went to the ER. They called it a near syncope which means I came close to passing out. they checked my NT-Pro-BNP and it was 2290. I'm not sure what that mean for me. I hear Dr. Gupta and others talking about BNP levels of 400 - 500 as high so what's my 2290 level mean? I always had good endurance and still do even at the age of 59. My work is physically demanding only limited by a recent hernia. I have a referral from my doc to see a cardiologist and surgery scheduled for the hernia.
This the most comprehensive video on this topic that ive found. 😮
Recently has 2 episodes of low heart beat headache dizzy to the point of falling down. I am dealing with body dysmorphia and an eating disorder this causes me to do 5 hours of cardio per day. Have I don’t damage to my heart ? Thanks
I wish I could understand the word use are using about??? some kind of score?
My father had defibrillator installed in 2005 after a triple bypass. He is due to have a battery change. The Cardiologist that he has been sent to is now asking why it was installed and for us to decide whether they put in a pacemaker. My father is 89 years old, very well in himself. Lives alone and is still very capable of looking after himself.
I believe that he's the most hated doctor ever in the eyes of drug industries and huge medical setups
If I could sacrifice my everything for someone, it must have been Dr Sanjay Gupta. You really really have such a lovely heart ❤️ You're not only treating the hearts, you're also winning them ❤️ Love you my dearest Dr Sanjay Gupta Lots of love from Pakistan 🇵🇰
I think long Covid is EBV.
Well explained. Thank you!
I totally agree with your diagnosis, it’s something I had to discover on my own. I noticed when I exercise my diastolic improves, but I have to exercise regularly to keep it normal.
They told me I stand a 2% chance of Stroke soo they put me on Xarellto . My biggest concern is having a few drinks while on Xarellto
I use to take a 1 -4 ounce shot of Jack Daniels or how many beers or glass of wine in moderation while on Xarellto
Can you drink alcohol and can alcohol cause you to bleed internal make blood to think . im on Xarellto
Thank you.
What about bigeminy?
So informative, not rambling at all. We are very lucky you take the time to share your knowledge with us...thank you so much. I'm glad i saw this tonight. Im going in for ablation treatment in a couple of weeks so will work at getting my inflammation down. I just noticed it was 3 on my last bloods in March. Thanks again 🫂 🙏
Very useful information no one has ever explained it in such detail. When I see my results I’ll know what the results mean. Thank Dr Gupta!
You didn't lose your father, Sanjay. He lives in you and he knows you'll carry on. His job is done, now he and God are watching over you!
Thank you very much for the explanation but did you say that you hope to take some of the anxiety from having high blood pressure ? Wait there is a clue that you spoke without realizing ' about anxiety what if anxiety is driving the blood pressure to go high' in know for sure it does but yet doctors prescribe high blood pressure medications without treating the anxiety too which I think it is wrong ' they should be testing both of them at the same time to get the best results and not just treat the high blood pressure without treating the anxiety '. Guys please subscribe to my channel too I talk mainly about life " thanks
I can say the same thing, I have learnt more from u tube doctors than any other doctors.
Same!! after the 2nd Covid shot!! I guess they cant prove it so they don’t want to talk about I!
What would be the dose for a 40 year old male with a consistently high BP. Please respond as soon as possible. Thank you.
Nice seeing you out and about, Doc! Hope you're enjoying your lunch or whatever it is! Is this in York? Always taking advantage of an opportunity! That's why you're successful and a much loved and respected doctor. Show me the money!!!
Thank you for another excellent video.I will pray for your dads health.
I took metoprolol 25 mg in the morning and 25 mg at night for 6 months for a condition called vascular headache. I was dying from the medicine because I had side effects such as fatigue, depression. I suddenly stopped metoprolol and got severe headache. How long last the side effects of leaving metoprolol abruptly?
Thank you for the video.
Cheers
Such a poignant video for me. Words of advice I will take on board.
My heart beat picks up for first hr in bed!
I think our paths are going to cross soon Dr. Gupta. I'm a life long sportsman. Just wanted to write here that myocarditis and exercise don't mix. Correct?
This is why the future of health consultation starts with practicioners such as yourself. I truly believe some doctors can inadvertently cause of a lot of psycological harm to patients with their cold-shoulder repsonses and overly clinical approach. Drs/nurses with a softer touch such as yourself can reallly lay out the foundations for lives free of health anxiety/insecurity.
I thank God for you doctor.
What’s the difference between a fib and just having skips and tachycardia and or bradycardia etc? How can you tell the difference with those that get these symptoms often?
Yesterday I had a sudden Afib episode start with bpm 100-112. I did the Valsalva maneuver 3x and within minutes my bpm dropped into the low 70s, then the mid 60s. It was glorious! Thank you! Thank you!
Take magnesium and vitamin D together. It works synergistically
If you feel them, you’re probably magnesium deficient. I’ve realized when I take magnesium, I don’t “feel” them. If I skip a day or two, I “feel” my heart beating
Magnesium and vitamin D + K mk7
Doctor, i need your thought with my situation where there is no hypertropie nor hypokinesie, No enlarged heart, No stiff heart, but diastolic function is low in left ventricle. Note: I have low blood volume in long run with anemia - I have a history of prolonged heavy bleedling almost 21 days every month, and have a habit of holding breath while reading or concentrating. Will this condition can be reversed if the breathing issue is corrected.
Thank you Dr Gupta. Your reading and summary of the many studies are so useful. The concept of "risk" is being used to dispense long term medications. After my ablation the medics say I should stay on Apixaban when I ask why they say increased risk of stroke. They then say 1% increase to which I reply 99% no change in risk which as a healthy 72 year old I will take. Similarly statins are dispensed due to Qrisk which is basically about age. The side effects of these pharmaceuticals also increase risk but that is never considered.
I had an echo when my mom died when I was 45. Echo was great, EF at 65%. After having covid dealing with sob, high hr and palps...I had a repeat echo and now my EF is 55% and I have mild LVH. Im so scared. Doc says its fine, its mild. I googled and am so scared Im gonna drop dead. My cholesterol is great, bp is great too. She thinks covid did this to me. I am overweight and trying to lose weight now that Im 52 and menopausal. Am I doomed? Why wouldnt my doc be concerned?
I am 70. I am in heart failure. I had 18 episodes of V tach. . Luckily I was in the hospital. My symptoms were drowsiness and feeling weak. I am home now with medications.
Unfortunately my daughter if insanely against needles!!!! I wish I could get her to do this treatment!!!!!
Wish he would narrate eBooks. He is super good at explaining and i feel so engaged, like on the edge of my seat, like some family drama..."damn!, then what happens?"
After 6 years of wondering what happened to me on a 30-day silent meditation retreat in 2018 where I endured profound stress and had consistently poor posture after my one daily meal, this video has completely blown my mind. I thought what was happening to me was normal per the dark night stages of meditation. I am now realizing that because of the stress and poor posture, that I was pressing on my vagus nerve while also trying to do deep inner work. Was a nightmare. My bloating got out of control. Fasting was the only thing that kind of helped. My digestive system stopped working and I thought I was losing my mind. This video has helped me so much. It has really blown my mind. Whoever you are, wherever you are: there is hope. You can retrain your body to get back to feeling amazing again and working properly as it should. Consistent walking/running, cold showers, hitting a punching bag, getting a vagus nerve stimulator, neuro/biofeedback, EMDR, therapy, finding ways to be grateful, chiropractor, reducing intake sugar/dairy/gluten/processed foods, finding healthy ways to genuinely relax, journaling, crying, laughing, pooping, drinking enough water, deep breathing, quality supplementation (magnesium glycinate, l-tyrosine, fish oil, etc), and a whole lot of patience. Do not give up on the journey to reclaim your body and your best self. It is totally possible.
Over the past few months I noticed random extra two beats occasionally (like 2 light thumps, but where I can slightly feel it) with my normal heart beat. I notice them off and on through the day, but mainly after meals and watching tv on the couch after dinner. My resting heart rate is normal my usual 70-80 BPM. I have a fitness watch to check and blood pressure is normal. No racing issues and other symptoms. I am 39 and take basic multivitamins, d, cod liver oil, and coq10. I also tried magnesium at night to see if that would help, but I'm still noticing the palpitations. I don't notice them at all when working out or going on long walks. Any advice? Thank you!
How bout having a watchmen
I am just discovering this video. I have enjoyed you for years and am grateful for the insight into my dysautotonomia, POTS and EDS. You are a gift to the world.
